Born Francesco Forgione in southern Italy, Padre Pio grew up in a humble farming family before becoming a Franciscan Capuchin friar. In 1918, he received the stigmata (the visible wounds of Jesus Christ on his hands, feet, and side). For the next fifty years, multiple medical doctors examined his wounds, marveling that they bled continuously without infection or natural medical explanation.

Despite suffering and decades under intense Church investigation, Padre Pio spent up to sixteen hours a day listening to confessions, guiding thousands of souls back to God. Below, you can explore the medical records, his miraculous encounters, his advice for daily prayer, and the published stories covering his life.
